Saye's Rig- Testimonials
I must say that I sailed around for years with the unit but never used it until last year on my way to Brazil from South Africa, via St Helena. We were participating in the Governor's Cup Race from Simonstown to St Helena when all electrics on board failed.
The Generator packed up and while trying to charge batteries with the engine alternator shorted out all electrics. Including solar panels and wind charger.
Then I was forced to use the Saye's Rig for the first time.... and regretted that I never used her before.
It is the most fantastic piece of machinery that I ever did see. I spent hours sitting on the transom watching it move and trim and it was just too wonderful for words. I thought of myself as a good sailor (30 years’ experience) but for
the first time I really learned to set my sails properly and became so good at it that sometimes the wheel would not even move, it was only side waves that hit the rudder that moved the wheel but Saye’s brings her right back.
I will never again sail with Auto pilot. We named the rig Madiba, a fond name for our ex-president Nelson Mandela because like him the rig was locked away for years unused and then made a fantastic entrance and job of it.
However, sadly I lost the sail SR 305 at sea and would like to buy a new sail please.
Let me know the details shipping it to Port Elizabeth South Africa.
