North Sea Coaster 'Ernestine' - 1899

'Ernstine' is special - she's a North Sea Coaster, a commercial hauler built in 1899. Tillman Holsten rebuilt her, and she's now used for charter trops in the Baltic. Tillman was planning to do an Atlantic crossing, and when we last heard from him, 'Ernestine' was in Portugal.

(Email received Sept. 15, 2013) - Hi Ron, We returned from a 15-month Atlantic round and are very satisfied with the Saye's Rig gear. I still play with the idea of enlarging the paddle to improve the steering in light airs, but altogether we were very happy with it. Here you find a recent picture of us riding out a gale force 7, after having visited a big harbour-festival and being therefore exhausted, happily trusting the Saye's Rig to find the way home. The crew is obviously sound asleep except one guy who was seasick. Tillman & Nele "ERNESTINE"
