"Asma"
"Asma", a custom aluminum 42, was sailed by Clarke Stede and Michelle Poncini in their Around the Americas Expedition in 1990-1992. Starting off from the east coast of the United States, they sailed the Northwest Passage to Dutch Harbor, Alaska. There, they removed the Windpilot self-steering system they began their jouney with, and had a Monitor shipped up and installed. They then continued south around Cape Horn and back to their starting port. After several subsequent transatlantic crossings "Asma", with her Monitor, was sold to Tony Gooch, renamed "Taonui", and sailed on a non-stop around the world circumnavigation in 2002-2003. See the boat entry for "Taonui". This Monitor, with well over 110,000 sea miles on it, is now on display in our home office in Richmond, California.
